Today, I’m bringing you Dr.Wu’s new release, the Miniature DW Devastator G2 Color Set. Over the past month, Dr.Wu has successively released three sets containing the six individual members of the Miniature Devastator. Speaking of which, is this the shortest interval and fastest release schedule between individual members among all Devastator toys? Today’s set collects all members at once and repaints them into the G2 color scheme. For someone lazy like me, this kind of set is indeed much more convenient. How does the toy perform? Let’s find out through the review.
▼The toy packaging box is the largest one among Dr.Wu’s recent products. In the center of the box is a huge Devastator illustration, with the Dr.Wu LOGO in the lower right corner. The back of the box mainly displays photos of each individual member and the combined form, along with handling reminders for miniature-scale products.
The contents include six individual members, combination parts, a combined-form rifle, instruction manual, six individual character cards, and one combined character card.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼The size of the Constructicons’ individual members is roughly the same as Dr.Wu’s other miniature cars. Since they use the DW Cybertronian design, their appearances are slightly different from the G1 designs we are familiar with. Scrapper is the leader of Devastator. From the chest armor design and the shovel structure on the back, you can still see some elements of G1 Scrapper. At the same time, the two pairs of huge wheels on the arms are quite different from the Scrapper we know.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼The toy’s arms can rotate vertically and can raise horizontally close to 90 degrees. The elbows can bend close to 90 degrees. The legs can kick forward and sideways beyond 90 degrees, kick backward close to 90 degrees, and the knees can bend far beyond 90 degrees. Scrapper’s articulation, like other miniature products in the same series, and the other Devastator members, are basically quite similar. Some members may have additional head rotation and waist rotation, so I won’t go into detail about them again.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Scrapper’s vehicle mode is this Cybertronian “Scrapper”. The difference from Earth vehicles is very obvious in this design. The entire vehicle focuses more on the rounded Cybertronian style, and the three pairs of huge wheels also give it an alien wasteland feeling. The chest armor of the combined mode can be stored inside Scrapper’s vehicle mode, which is also a gimmick inherited from the G1 toy.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Bonecrusher’s robot mode has a relatively high center of gravity, with a more developed torso and upper body. The exposed connection holes on the legs remind me of the small zone cars I played with when I was a kid, many of which had similar designs.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼This vehicle mode is also my favorite among the six members. The entire vehicle looks like a small beetle, almost completely abandoning the design elements of G1. The front shovel is still transformed from the chest armor of the robot mode. The front wheels use a wheel design, while the rear wheels are replaced with tracks. I remember there was a similar design in The Wandering Earth.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Hook has a more balanced body shape. You can identify the character by the crane arm on his back. If you look closely, you can also notice that the patterns on the chest armor use an asymmetrical design, with details resembling display panels.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Hook’s vehicle mode combines the style of real-world vehicles with Cybertronian mini cars. The vehicle is relatively flat, with wheels at the front and tracks replacing the rear wheels. I really like this wheel-and-track combination design. The base of the crane arm can rotate horizontally, and the entire crane arm can lift and extend, matching the functions of a real crane.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Long Haul looks noticeably bulkier, with stronger block-like shapes in both the torso and limbs. Since Long Haul serves as the hip section and the load-bearing core of the combined form, his joints are more complicated than those of the other members.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Long Haul’s vehicle mode retains the classic large G1 dump bed. The front of the vehicle does not have a cockpit-like design, but instead features an inverted triangle structure. The number of wheels has been increased to four pairs, further emphasizing the vehicle’s strong load-bearing capability.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Scavenger’s robot mode features a large amount of track structure. The track design is even spread across the entire body. The character carries a long mechanical arm and shovel on its back, which are also important visual elements of Scavenger.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Scavenger’s vehicle mode is an excavator. Yes, even on Cybertron, excavators are still needed. The excavator is relatively flat, using two pairs of tracks as wheels. The mechanical arm has multiple joints, allowing the angle to be adjusted freely.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Mixmaster is also one of the easier members to recognize among the six. The character carries a huge mixing drum on the back, and the lower legs are also extremely large, emphasizing its sense of strength.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼This Cybertron Mixmaster has changed the front of the vehicle into a trapezoidal shape. It retains the classic mixing drum at the rear while replacing the rear wheels with tracks. I really like this combination of wheels and tracks.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Of course, the highlight of this set is still the combination. The transformation process of the six individual members into the combined form is slightly more complicated. This is because the combination joints are mostly stored inside each individual member, while the individual structures also need to support some articulation in the combined mode. The combined Devastator has a bulky body shape, being relatively short and thick, which differs quite a lot from the G1 Devastator in our memories. This is actually based on the DW Devastator design proportions. From today’s aesthetic perspective, it may not look as appealing, but this was indeed the original design style back then.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼Devastator does not have an obvious backpack. The only thing on the back is Long Haul’s dump bed. This does not look out of place; instead, it fits well with the concept of combining construction vehicles into Devastator.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼The head can rotate horizontally and can slightly look upward. The arms can rotate vertically. The right arm can raise slightly beyond 90 degrees, while the left arm has a smaller range. The elbows can rotate and bend about 90 degrees. The wrists can rotate horizontally. The hands are semi-articulated hands: the index finger has one directional joint, while the other three fingers move together and also have one directional joint. The waist can rotate slightly. The legs can kick forward about 45 degrees, sideways 90 degrees, while backward movement is limited. The knees can rotate and bend about 45 degrees.
The ankle articulation of both feet is achieved through transformation mechanisms, which is extremely rare even among small-scale products, let alone miniature-scale products. The right foot’s ankle articulation requires adjusting the shovel connection point to achieve a locking position. The left foot uses a transformation-based limiting mechanism, also allowing inward ankle movement. This dual-foot ankle design is, in my opinion, the most ingenious part of the entire combination design. What do you think?
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼The most iconic accessory of Devastator is definitely this large rifle. Before installation, the rifle needs a simple combination transformation. The handle of the rifle is relatively thin, but it fits quite tightly into the hand. Be careful not to use excessive force when handling it to avoid accidents.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼By transforming the hands, the drill attachment can be installed. This drill-hand design has become a very popular accessory for Devastator in recent years. It feels like Devastator is incomplete without a drill. Dr.Wu’s drill is also quite chibi-styled and does not look out of place when paired with the main body.
![Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1 Dr.Wu Assembly Cyber Devastator Set of 6 - View 1]()
▼There are already very few companies making DW Devastator products on the market, and even fewer producing small-scale Devastators, not to mention miniature-scale ones. In a sense, Dr.Wu’s set has pioneered miniature combination figures. The toy uses a Cybertronian design as the main style, which feels quite fresh for players who are used to G1 designs. Each individual member captures the key visual elements of their respective characters, and the final Devastator combination also features a very creative ankle articulation design.Of course, as the first attempt at a miniature combiner, Devastator does have some areas that could be improved, such as the articulation of the combined form. However, these flaws do not overshadow the fact that the entire set provides a very fresh and unique experience. If you are interested in miniature products, this set is definitely worth getting.
