▼Today I’m bringing you the two versions of Dr.Wu’s ultra-small-scale Battletrap. Dr.Wu’s ultra-small series focuses on extremely small, simple-to-transform toys, and this series should be familiar to everyone. This series has finally released its first two-in-one warrior mold, which is the Battletrap we are reviewing today. Let’s see how the toy performs.
The toy’s packaging box follows Dr.Wu’s usual ultra-small series style. The center of the box shows the figure in robot mode. The original color and DW color illustrations are not just simple recolors; there are minor differences in the head sculpt. The top-left and bottom-right corners feature the ultra-small series logo and the Dr.Wu logo, respectively.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The back of the box mainly shows photos of the figure in robot mode, along with necessary play reminders for the ultra-small series.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼As a two-in-one warrior, Battletrap has two vehicles: one is this small helicopter. When unboxed, the helicopter does not come with the rotor blade installed; it must be attached manually.
This helicopter is slightly larger than Dr.Wu’s regular small cars. The cockpit, fuselage, and tail are all highly detailed. Because of transformation storage, the chassis is slightly thicker. The original color version uses the classic blue-and-white color scheme from the cartoon, while the DW version is predominantly black. Both versions have transparent cockpit windows. The original color version has better transparency, allowing you to see the pilot seat inside. The DW version uses red transparent parts, which I think gives a better texture.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The cockpit window can open to reveal the pilot seat. This opening mechanism is uncommon in toys of this size.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼Under the nose of the helicopter, the Gatling gun can be mounted. The Gatling gun is slightly larger than its real-world scale. After mounting the Gatling gun, the helicopter’s chassis dimensions change. To ensure the helicopter stands steadily, the rear landing gear can be adjusted in angle.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼Battletrap’s two vehicles are a helicopter and a small jeep. The jeep is roughly the same size as the other ultra-small cars in the series, with slightly chibi proportions. The vehicle is rounded and compact, with the front and cockpit shells mostly complete. The rear exposes some transformation structures. The color separation differs significantly between the original and DW versions: the original version has more detailed red and yellow lights, while the DW version has a black tail. Which looks better is up to personal preference.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The double-barrel cannon can be mounted on the jeep’s roof. While in reality such large cannons could not be placed on a car roof, the helicopter and jeep can combine, so there’s no need to be strict about realism.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The toy’s transformation is not difficult; once done, it can be remembered easily. This transformation design is a culmination of the series’ advantages: minimalistic, clever, and still maintains high completion in both modes. Especially in transforming the jeep into robot feet, the door flipping and wheel shifting are ingeniously designed—I have no idea how the designer thought of this.
The figure’s robot mode matches our first impression of this character. The upper body transforms from the helicopter, and the lower body transforms from the jeep. Although the vehicles are slightly chibi, the robot mode proportions are correct.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼In the original color version, Battletrap’s head sculpt has blue eyes; if you didn’t know, you might not realize this is a villain. The DW version has red eyes, fitting the villain image, and makes the head sculpt look even more sinister.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼In the original cartoon, Battletrap’s rotor blade folded directly onto his back during transformation. In the toy, it’s stored on the right shoulder. Of course, there is a corresponding slot on the back if you want to replicate the cartoon. The toy’s back also includes a nearly complete helicopter tail, which matches the animation design.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The head sculpt can rotate and tilt up. Arms can rotate vertically and lift about 90 degrees. Elbows bend close to 180 degrees; wrists rotate. The waist can rotate; legs can kick forward, backward, and sideways about 90 degrees. Thighs rotate; the knees have multiple joints and can bend close to 180 degrees. The feet can plant forward, backward, and sideways. Battletrap’s articulation is excellent compared to similarly scaled products, making posing very dynamic.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼To replicate the original, I attached the rotor and double-barrel cannon during transformation. Battletrap’s weapons also include the Gatling gun and energy sword. The Gatling gun can be held normally or inserted into the slot on the back.
![Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1 Dr.Wu DW-ES02 Trap Maker - View 1]()
▼The energy sword is a scheduled bonus, which adds significantly to the toy. The original version’s sword is yellow; the DW version is red. The transparent parts subtly show etched energy patterns. As I mentioned before, for melee characters, especially those whose main weapon is a close-combat weapon, posing largely depends on wrist articulation. The wrist rotation is critical; posing without it would be impossible.

▼This ultra-small-scale Battletrap is, among similarly scaled toys I’ve played with recently, the most fun. Both modes are highly complete; the transformation is simple yet clever, making it stress-free to play with. Classic accessories are included, and the version I have, which includes the bonus, further enriches the weapon set and playability. Considering the toy’s overall performance and the scarcity of same-character toys on the market, if you need a toy that’s easy to handle or want to complete the character set, I highly recommend this ultra-small set.
