Figure is approximately 25.5CM/10" tall and changes from a cannon to robot and back. Figure is approximately MP scaled.
Today, I bring you the reissue of DX9’s MP-scaled Galvatron. If you’re a younger fan, you might not even know this Galvatron, but if I remember correctly, this product is already about ten years old. I never expected DX9 to revisit Galvatron for a reissue now. How does the toy perform? Let’s find out in this review.
▼The 2D style packaging of Galvatron is familiar to long-time DX9 fans. The front of the box features a render of Galvatron in robot mode, with the DX9 logo in the lower right corner. The back of the box mainly showcases Galvatron in both modes, along with articulation displays, and a G1-inspired white grid pattern.

▼Galvatron’s head sculpt is well-executed, with a serious facial expression, showing a very sculpted nose and lips. The red part of the eyes is a separate piece; my version has some excess plastic around the eye sockets, which should be considered a defect.

▼Compared to the G1 design, this DX9 Galvatron looks a bit more robust. The transformation relies heavily on big, bold design choices, so there aren’t too many visible transformation seams. On the other hand, the armor integration is very well done, giving the figure a solid feel in hand, making it seem like a very complete product.

▼The feet of the toy use a solid piece of alloy, which not only ensures stability while standing but also adds some weight to the figure. DX9 Galvatron has a noticeable backpack, which, aside from the purple column on the back, also includes two additional armored treads. This brings up two different design philosophies for MP-scaled products: either a figure is designed to achieve a high level of animation accuracy, with intricate, complex transformations, or the figure sacrifices some of that accuracy to enhance playability and overall fluidity. What would you prefer? Feel free to leave a comment.

▼The head sculpt can rotate 360 degrees and tilt up and down. The arms can rotate vertically, and the upper arms can rotate 360 degrees, allowing them to raise over 90 degrees. The elbows rotate and bend about 90 degrees. The wrists rotate and, due to ball joints, can change the hand orientation. The hands are articulated, with a ball joint at the base of the thumb and additional ball joints and swivel joints for the other fingers.

▼The waist can rotate, and the upper body can bend forward by about 45 degrees. The legs can kick forward slightly less than 90 degrees, kick back about 90 degrees, and kick sideways over 90 degrees. The joints on the legs are gear joints, but the side kick joint has large gear teeth, which results in some slight play in the joint. I think this could be optimized. The thighs rotate, the knees have gear joints that can bend more than 90 degrees, and the ankles can rotate and pivot in all directions. The articulation on this Galvatron is similar to other classic-style toys, but with articulated hands and lots of gear joints. The slight play in the sidekick joint doesn't hinder posing, so basic poses should be fine.

▼DX9 includes two versions of the arm cannon. One is a transparent version where the cannon's yellow part is made of translucent plastic, which also contains some glitter, reminiscent of the style of the G1 Galvatron toy.
![]()
▼The other version is the standard animated-style orange arm cannon. Both cannons are interchangeable, and you can also equip Galvatron with dual cannons if you prefer.
![]()
▼DX9 also includes a Matrix of Leadership accessory, which can be hung around Galvatron's neck with the included chain. Many Galvatron toys on the market don’t allow the Matrix of Leadership to be held properly, but the one included here fits perfectly with Galvatron’s hand, making it a great accessory.
![]()
▼The Matrix of Leadership can also be opened. While Galvatron can't open the Matrix of Leadership, we’re just showing this off for the purpose of illustrating the IF line’s design. If Galvatron could open it, then Unicron would essentially have made himself a "live father" and gone for a reverse “Zandar.”

▼The transformation process is a bit involved but not too difficult, focusing mainly on large and broad movements. After transforming it a few times, you’ll remember the steps. The hand cannons are split into parts for transformation, which isn’t a flaw, as that’s how the G1 animation handled them. However, when installing the hand cannon in vehicle mode, the connecting clips need to be filed down a little, as they don’t fit perfectly out of the box.
Galvatron’s vehicle mode is a cannon platform, and the transformation here is also very well done, with armor that covers most of the body and hides the humanoid structure.
![]()
▼The rear of the cannon platform features a pair of handles, probably for firing the cannon, although I don’t remember anyone using them in the G1 animation. The two armored treads are made of real rubber, which can be manipulated by hand to make them roll. Since the front support uses real treads, while the rear uses wheels, the rolling function isn’t as effective.
![]()
▼Compared to current products, the rear supports on the cannon platform seem a little empty, which might be an attempt to simulate the trigger. In practice, however, the cannon platform is quite suitable for holding in hand as a gun.
![]()
▼With a simple transformation, you can switch the cannon’s barrel for a toy-colored version. Players can replace it as needed. I didn’t find any place to mount the Matrix of Leadership, but it would be great if it could be mounted somewhere.

▼standards. The toy has high accuracy, feels solid, and is fun to transform without being cumbersome. In an era where many third-party toys are focused on extreme animation accuracy with complex transformations, this one provides an alternative choice for those who prioritize playability. Many of us work long hours and don’t want to spend hours studying a toy’s transformation during our limited downtime. Wouldn't you agree? Given that the official MP Galvatron doesn’t seem to be releasing anytime soon, this DX9 Galvatron serves as a pretty great stand-in.
