▼Today’s review is for DX9’s upcoming new release — the Masterpiece-scale G1 Prowl.It’s been over a year since DX9 first revealed the prototype model. After extensive refinement and mold adjustments, this Prowl is finally ready for release. How does it perform? Let’s find out in this review.
Since the piece in my hands is a test sample, it doesn’t come with official packaging or instructions — those will be included with the final retail version.The contents include the Prowl main body, an alternate head sculpt, and his rifle.

▼This Prowl includes two head sculpts — one is the old version used when the gray prototype was first shown, and the other is the newly optimized version.The manufacturer includes both, allowing players to choose their preference. Personally, I think the new head sculpt looks much better than the old one.

▼The accuracy of this Prowl is very high, while its body proportions have been refined to match modern aesthetics.Like Sideswipe, Prowl also features a reduced chest size for a more natural look.If you want to apply an insignia, it can be placed on the central chest panel. When transformed into vehicle mode, this panel folds away neatly without affecting the vehicle’s appearance.

▼For a transforming figure, Prowl’s backpack compression is top-tier.The vehicle shell folds in several layers, minimizing the overall size as much as possible.Of course, compared to the animation model, the backpack here is
inevitably larger — after all, toys can’t rely on Cybertronian compression technology like in the cartoon.

▼The head can rotate horizontally and tilt slightly up and down.The arms can rotate vertically and raise outward well past 90 degrees.The upper arms rotate, and the elbows bend about 90 degrees.The wrists rotate, and the hands are semi-articulated — the thumb features one fixed-direction joint and one ball joint, while the other four fingers are molded together with two hinge joints.
The waist can rotate, and the upper torso can bend forward about 90 degrees.The legs kick forward about 90 degrees, side kick nearly 90 degrees, and back about 30 degrees.The thighs rotate, knees bend well beyond 90 degrees, and the ankles can tilt inward for balance.Overall, Prowl’s articulation covers almost everything expected from a modern transforming toy — posing is no problem at all.

▼Prowl’s weapon accessory is a large rifle, his standard G1 armament.The gun connects securely to his hand via a tab-and-slot mechanism.

▼The shoulder cannons are not separate accessories — they are integrated into the main body.Very few Prowl figures have managed this design.The cannons are stored inside the chest cavity, and you unfold them by opening the chest.The space left behind even allows the shoulder wheels to fold inward — a very clever bit of engineering.

▼The transformation is not difficult. After a few attempts, it’s easy to memorize the steps.This design continues DX9’s usual transformation style but adds several new and interesting touches — such as the asymmetrical folding mechanism for the head sculpt, which you really have to experience in hand to appreciate its ingenuity.
The vehicle mode maintains a solid and cohesive shell, with panel lines within an acceptable range.That said, the G1 Prowl’s vehicle design is known for sharp angles, while DX9’s version appears smoother and more rounded — closer in style to Transformers: Siege Prowl rather than pure G1.The printed text on the doors is crisp, there’s no noticeable paint chipping or bleeding, and the tires are made of rubber.

▼The rear transparent parts look excellent.Although I don’t recall the cartoon depicting clear rear windows, the use of transparent plastic here enhances the realism of the vehicle mode.

▼Overall, DX9’s MP-scale Prowl represents top-tier quality among all G1 Prowl toys currently on the market.The design balances accuracy and style, features excellent articulation, includes the signature weapon, and even achieves fully integrated shoulder cannons.Its transformation is smooth and enjoyable, with plenty of clever engineering throughout.If you’re a fan of Prowl, this figure is practically a must-have.Even putting character preference aside, as a standard MP-scale transforming figure, this one scores high across the board for design, playability, and overall quality — a very strong recommendation.
