▼Today I’m bringing you DX9’s new release, the MP-scale Bluestreak. Last year I reviewed their MP-scale Prowl, and now, less than a year later, the recolored and slightly remolded Bluestreak is about to launch. Let’s see how the toy performs in this review.
Since this is still an early review sample, the toy doesn’t come with official packaging, manual, or character card yet; these will be included with the production version. The contents of the toy include the Bluestreak main figure and a small gun.

▼Bluestreak’s head sculpt is similar to Prowl’s but is not the same mold. The original Prowl head sculpt was widely considered unattractive, so the manufacturer removed it this time. The retained head sculpt shares the same style as Prowl’s updated sculpt. Compared to the G1 design, the toy has clearly been rounded to fit modern aesthetic preferences. The head sculpt I have has slight flash on the edges, probably due to quality variance.

▼In the G1 animation, Prowl and Bluestreak share the same mold. The main difference, besides paint, is that Prowl’s front wheels are behind the shoulders, while Bluestreak’s front wheels are folded away. For those familiar with the previous Prowl, this mold allows the front wheels to be optionally stored behind the shoulders or in the torso. This design ensures that whether it’s recolored as Prowl or Bluestreak, the wheel positions are correct—a unique feature among third-party Prowl/Smokescreen figures.
The transparent parts on the legs use a peg system, leaving two small holes on the calves. I think this could be improved with a sandwich-style construction, using grey material around the transparent parts to secure them.

▼The DX9 Bluestreak’s backpack is the most important remold. The original Prowl has an opaque roof with a siren on top; Bluestreak’s backpack has been changed to a transparent sunroof. The size and thickness of the backpack are very well controlled. While it’s not exactly the G1 Cybertron compression style, it achieves at least 70% visual accuracy.

▼The head sculpt can rotate horizontally and tilt up slightly. The arms rotate vertically and can lift well past 90 degrees. Upper arms rotate horizontally; elbows bend about 90 degrees. Wrists rotate. The hands are semi-articulated: the thumb has a hinge joint and a ball joint, and the other four fingers move together with two hinge joints.
The waist can rotate, and the torso can tilt forward about 90 degrees. Legs can kick forward about 90 degrees, sideways nearly 90 degrees, and backward about 30 degrees. Thighs rotate horizontally, knees bend well past 90 degrees, and the feet can plant inward. I think the knee could use an additional locking joint because at certain angles, the thigh can slide into the calf. Otherwise, this mold has no obvious articulation shortcomings, and posing is more than sufficient.

▼Bluestreak’s weapon is the same big gun as Prowl’s. The gun handle has a peg that fits into the hand, ensuring stable grip.

▼As mentioned, the front wheels behind the shoulders can be stored in the chest cavity. Storing them requires flipping out the shoulder cannon. Compared to Prowl, this shoulder cannon design better suits Bluestreak, as Prowl’s shoulder cannons are pointed missiles while Bluestreak has a pair of barrels. This makes the shoulder cannon more accurate for Bluestreak.

▼The transformation process is not difficult and includes clever engineering. Those who have handled the previous Prowl know that the arm folding and side-head rotation mechanisms are ingenious. I really don’t know how the designer came up with the head design.
Bluestreak’s vehicle mode uses the same DATSUN sports car mold as Prowl. The main difference is the roof construction: Prowl has an opaque roof with a siren, Bluestreak has a transparent roof. Because of the transparent part, the cockpit looks more open, and the internal transformation structure is visible through the windows.

▼The tires are rubber, and the taillights have the corresponding yellow-red paint. A big advantage of this mold is the excellent control of chassis thickness, making it look like a real car with minimal exposure of transformation structures.

▼Regular readers know I rarely focus on a toy’s underside, since most people don’t inspect it closely. But in this mold, the chassis storage is very tidy and demonstrates high space utilization.

▼This DX9 MP-scale Bluestreak continues the excellent Prowl mold, with recoloring and minor remolding according to the character. Since the original mold is already high quality, the recolored product’s quality is almost guaranteed. Additionally, this mold allows switching the front wheel positions, making it one of the few third-party molds that can accurately replicate both the police car and Bluestreak’s shoulder wheel configuration. For collectors like me who already have Prowl, this Bluestreak is a must-have. I’m curious if they will produce a Smokescreen version next, and how the shoulder cannons and wheels will be handled—I’m looking forward to it.
