▼RT Waspinator comes in fairly simple packaging and printed materials. Both the front and back box art feature AI-style rendered images of the product in its robot and beast modes.

▼The instruction manual is a small full-color tri-fold leaflet. On one hand, it feels rather minimalistic, but on the other hand, Waspinator's transformation is genuinely simple and intuitive, so the instructions are easy to follow.

▼There aren't many accessories. After attaching the four separately packaged wings, the remaining accessories include a stinger blaster, a Stasis Pod controller from the cartoon, and a combination accessory featuring the laser-eye effect and the famous "split-head" scene.

▼Waspinator's paintwork is excellent. In robot mode, it stands approximately 16 cm tall to the top of the head, matching the official Beast Wars Masterpiece scale.

▼The wings on its back can be folded down for storage, although in the animation Waspinator usually appears with the wings fully spread in robot mode.

▼The head sculpt is outstanding and highly faithful to the animation. The blue translucent eyes, combined with the sculpted compound-eye texture underneath, look fantastic. The chest also features similarly crafted insect compound eyes, along with a separately painted silver central eye.

▼The small insect legs on the arms are soft rubber dummy parts that further enhance the robot mode's appearance.

▼There is no backpack in robot mode at all—the transformation parts are completely compressed into the chest.

▼The wing roots are attached via ball joints and need to be installed after opening the package. On my copy, the lower right wing's ball joint is rather loose and can pop out if too much force is applied. I've heard this is a common issue.

▼All four wings are molded in the same size with a symmetrical design. In reality, Waspinator's forewings and hindwings should be noticeably different in size, with the hindwings being smaller. In addition, the wings themselves are clearly undersized. See the image below for comparison.

▼The wings have a subtle iridescent coating that mimics the colorful translucent appearance of real insect wings.

▼From a top-down angle, you'll notice an opening above the chest armor. This is one of the few noticeable aesthetic flaws of RT Waspinator in robot mode.

▼Now let's look at the articulation. As a Beast Wars figure focused on organic sculpting, this Waspinator truly deserves to be called super articulated. The antennae can move up and down, and both mandibles can open independently, allowing for some hilariously asymmetrical facial expressions.

▼The neck rotates a full 360 degrees without obstruction. The head can look down about 30 degrees and look up about 25 degrees.

▼The insect antennae on the chest are made of soft rubber and can rotate freely.

▼The antennae are mounted on straight pegs rather than ball joints, so excessive force may pull them off. Ball joints would have been a better choice.

▼With no backpack getting in the way, the shoulders use ratcheted joints, allowing normal outward movement and forward/backward rotation. The double-jointed elbows bend a full 180 degrees. The wrists rotate, include a 90-degree inward hinge, and also have a slight outward tilt.

▼The hands feature a 1-1-3 articulated finger layout. The thumb has one rotational joint, while the remaining fingers each have two articulated joints.

▼The shoulders include a slight butterfly joint, allowing about 30 degrees of inward movement.

▼The waist rotates a full 360 degrees. Just be mindful of the insect abdomen when posing.

▼The ab-crunch allows about 45 degrees of forward movement and feels very solid. The insect abdomen can also swing significantly up and down, though considering its weight and the somewhat intimidating transparent connector, leaving it hanging naturally is probably the safer option.

▼The hips use ratcheted joints for outward movement, but only allow about 45 degrees because the thigh sculpt gets in the way. This is rather unfortunate, as a few additional moving panels could have improved the range. If you listen carefully, the ratchet only clicks once from the neutral stance to the maximum spread.

▼The hips also feature drop-down joints, unlocking even greater articulation.

▼The forward and backward leg movement is already extremely impressive.

▼The crotch panel clips are rather loose, so extending the drop-down hips often causes the panel to pop open, which slightly affects the play experience.

▼Some collectors have reported breakage right out of the box at the location circled in red below. It's worth checking that area first after receiving your figure.

▼Thigh rotation and inward movement are somewhat limited by surrounding sculpted parts, though the effect isn't too severe. Rotation exceeds 45 degrees.

▼The knees are also double-jointed, combining a ratcheted joint with a pin joint, allowing a full 180-degree fold.

▼Thanks to the strong ratchet, normal knee bends usually engage only the lower hinge, yet the figure can still achieve an extremely deep bend.

▼Both the front and rear sections of the feet can fold downward significantly for ground contact.

▼The feet feature about 30 degrees of inward and outward ankle tilt.

▼RT also added about 25 degrees of forward and backward ankle movement, but the joint has very little friction. As a result, Waspinator struggles to stand in many poses and tends to lean backward due to the weight of the abdomen.

▼If you want to tighten the ankle joints yourself, you'll need to open the leg screws. However, for aesthetic reasons, the manufacturer has covered the screw holes, so removing the covers carries the risk of damaging the paint.

▼Besides the up-and-down movement at the base, the insect abdomen also features three additional articulated segments near the tail for organic bending.

▼The stinger at the end of the abdomen can extend or retract.

▼The middle section on the underside of the abdomen lacks a locking tab, relying solely on joint tension to stay together. As a result, it can separate slightly when the abdomen is bent.

▼Each pair of wings is attached via a ball joint at the base and a swivel hinge, allowing them to be posed freely.

▼A simple kneeling pose hardly does justice to Waspinator's incredible articulation, so here's an effortless one-handed ground-touching pose instead.

▼The included controller recreates the classic scene from Episode 38, where Waspinator uses it to unlock and open the Stasis Pod.

▼In fact, this accessory also functions as a magnetic switch to activate Waspinator's LED headlight.

▼The figure does not include batteries, so you'll need to provide two SR416SW button cells yourself.

▼To install the batteries, first remove the faceplate, then unscrew the head and insert the batteries.

▼The LED effect looks great, although there is no light blocking, so some light leaks through the mouth.

▼There is also some light leakage behind the antennae.

▼Touch the forehead with the magnetic controller to activate the light.

▼Touch the back of the head to turn it off.

▼The stinger blaster is Waspinator's signature weapon. The paint applications are excellent, although the overall size feels slightly underscaled.

▼In robot mode, the weapon can be stored underneath the insect abdomen.

▼The final accessory is the gag head. Replace the face with the laser-eye piece, and the LED recreates the scene from the cartoon.

▼Then remove one of the hands and combine it with the remaining back-of-head piece and the removed faceplate to recreate the hilarious scene where Waspinator is blasted apart by lightning. When removing the hand, it's easier if you first loosen the sleeve clip with a screwdriver.

▼Compared with the official Kingdom Deluxe Waspinator, this version achieves a much cleaner robot mode by fully hiding the insect legs. However, the official figure has better wing proportions and overall wing presence.

▼Compared with the manufacturer's previous Masterpiece-scale Scorponok, the overall improvement is quite obvious. That Scorponok really wasn't worth the price, yet somehow the market price has never come down.

▼Don't let all that excellent articulation go to waste—here are some dynamic robot-mode poses. If only the ankle joints were a bit tighter, many of these poses would be much easier to hold, as the loose ankles make stable posing difficult.
