Takara Tomy Masterpiece MP-60 Ginrai Optimus Prime w/o Trailer
Material: ABS
Height: Unknown
▼First of all, it should be noted that the end of the MP series does not mean the MP series is truly over. While MP has ended, MPG has not. From now on, all Masterpiece toys will be included in the MPG series, including the first batch of repaints like Black Ironhide, Red Skids, and Purple Optimus Prime.
However, the end of the MP series is indeed the end of the MP series. Given the current design of MP toys, they barely qualify as Masterpiece-level. When considering the declining quality of the series, it truly tarnishes the legacy of its predecessors. As far as I know, many fans use the transition from MP to MPG as an opportunity to escape the MP “pit.” From this perspective, it is not wrong to call MP60 the final work of the MP series.
From MP01 to MP60, from the beginning to the end of a full 60-year cycle, it’s truly something to marvel at…
▼Because Ginrai is the final work of the MP series, the official manual unusually lists almost all MP toy packaging. For me, and perhaps for most fans, this part of the manual holds more meaning than the Ginrai toy itself.
![Disassembled robot components and accessories for transformation Disassembled robot components and accessories for transformation]()
▼Without the manual, the overall quality of the Ginrai toy is somewhat unspeakable. It might even be considered a bait to transition fans smoothly into purchasing the MPG series.
![Masterpiece MP-60 red and blue Ginrai truck robot mode figure Masterpiece MP-60 red and blue Ginrai truck robot mode figure]()
▼This is because Ginrai is far from the complete form of Super Ginrai or God Ginrai. With just the truck cab, it doesn’t deserve the MP title. At the very least, it needs the trailer to form Super Ginrai to match the level of MP24 Star Saber. And Super Ginrai, numbered MPG09, has already been included in the MPG series. This move by the official team is truly brilliant.
![Product packaging showing Transformers Ginrai specifications Product packaging showing Transformers Ginrai specifications]()
▼Ginrai’s vehicle mode is a familiar cab-over truck. It’s important to note that Ginrai is not Optimus Prime; don’t get that confused.
▼From the front view, the truck cab has no issues. The windows, headlights, and grille details are all well represented, although the lack of separate paint for the windshield wipers is a minor flaw.
![]()
▼However, from a side view, Ginrai has significant issues. The division between the robot’s legs and upper body is distinctly apparent, making it barely passable as a truck cab.
![]()
▼The chrome exhaust pipes are beautifully designed. However, for many fans who have purchased MPG09, the prettier it looks now, the more heartbreaking it will be later on.
![]()
▼From the bottom view, the toy’s rough design is clearly visible. The robot’s legs are completely exposed, which is far from the standard expected of the MP series.
![]()
▼Even the knee joints are directly exposed. While this may be required for transformation, the execution feels overly careless.
![]()
▼The truck’s tires are attached directly to the robot’s legs, and the front and rear wheels differ in width. For Ginrai’s disguise mode, I can only give it a score of 40 at most, all for the truck cab.
![]()
▼Adding the Power Warrior makes the toy look slightly better. However, the attachment clips are fragile and not very secure, so extra care is needed during handling. Additionally, the Power Warrior in MP60 features chrome plating, whereas MPG09 uses a regular painted finish. This distinction gives fans who purchased MPG09 another reason to consider buying MP60.
![]()
▼The little Energon Warrior is indeed quite adorable. To be fair, the details are pretty good and within acceptable standards. If only the connection with the robot could be made a bit more secure, it would be even better.
![]()
▼Ginrai’s transformation is very simple, at least when switching between robot and vehicle modes. As for transforming into Super Ginrai, please refer to yesterday’s Toy Transformation Weekly.
Jinrai’s robot form doesn’t have any advantage compared to third-party designs like FH or MT, and the proportions are obviously flawed. This reflects the current state of the MP series, where the “Masterpiece” title no longer intimidates third-party competitors. Gone are the days when MP-13 forced FT-02 off the shelves. Now, FT is aggressive, even launching the FM series to remake existing MP characters. Of course, Skyfire’s quality is another story…
![]()
▼The toy features a faux chest design, with the actual truck cab fully exposed on the back. This design entirely follows the G1 approach, and even MPG09’s transformation shows no significant departure from G1.
![]()
▼Yes, it’s that straightforward—nothing overly elaborate. It even makes it difficult to distinguish the robot’s front from its back.
![]()
▼If you don’t look at the hands, can you tell whether this is Jinrai’s front or back?
![]()
▼The toy’s head sculpt is quite good, maintaining the high standard of official designs and aligning well with Ginrai’s overall style.
![]()
▼The articulation is excellent, with an extremely flexible waist and minimal restrictions on the joints of the limbs.
![]()
▼However, the hip gear joint has overly large gaps. It makes you wonder if this final MP entry is paying homage to the first one, MP-01, which also started with a red-and-blue mask-faced Autobot leader and ends with a similarly colored Autobot head. Both even share the issue of large gaps in the hip joints—what a coincidence!
![]()
▼The toy’s accessories are minimal: just two guns and corresponding beam effect parts, far less elaborate than MPG-09’s variety. After all, the MP series is a thing of the past, and MPG is the future. It’s normal to promote the new line while diminishing the old.
![]()
▼Some might ask, what about MPG-09 Super Jinrai? I’m sorry to say, this unboxing is limited to MP-60 Jinrai. As the final entry in the MP series, it deserves this spotlight. Of course, that’s the flattering explanation. The less glamorous reason is that I’ve seen too many cases of broken smokestacks during assembly. So far, I’ve only unboxed the character card for MPG-09, and I’ll attempt the combination in a few days…
I actually have a cunning plan. With MPG-09’s price rising and MP-60’s dropping, why not use MP-60 for the combination? If it doesn’t break, all’s well. If it does, there’s no after-sales anyway, and buying another MP-60 is much cheaper than getting another MPG-09.
![]()
Overall, the officials never considered MP-60 to hold any significant meaning as the concluding entry of the MP series. Instead, they aimed for this toy to seamlessly transition MP players into the MPG line. Thus, MP-60’s overall performance and sincerity are quite limited—it features simple transformation, subpar design, and isn’t even a complete set. After inspecting the entire package, only the character card and the manual managed to pique my interest. Twenty years have flown by in the blink of an eye, and seeing the MP series in such a state now truly fills me with regret…
Is the MP series coming to an end? The MP-60 is the last one!
▼Recently, TF circle more blockbuster news than TT announced the end of the MP series ! WTF!!! I was shocked!
![]()
▼From 2003 until this year , MP Series has gone through a full 21 years - including a variety of restrictions and special colors Section 100 ! All put together how spectacular! I have calculated under my own MP collection is only 44 models, even less than half.
Do not know how many brothers received, may wish to report a number!
![]()
▼Next, focus on the final MP series, but also a new starting point for MPG series, MP-60 and MPG-09 Super Jen Lai!
![]()
▼To tell the truth, I am not very cold to Renlai, after all, all belong to the role of Japanese TF animation, more indifferent, purely when he is a different shape of the pillar brother bar.
![]()
▼The restoration of the human figure is quite good, but the specific size is unknown. The MP-60 Renlai adopts a toy color, and the color is similar to that of the MP44S. I think the texture is good. From the official picture, the silver paint on the crotch and thighs is very attractive.
![]()
▼Mobility is also quite good, all kinds of large POSE can be easily done!
![]()
▼It comes with two shooting effects, which is good.
![]()
▼The shape of the vehicle was generally good except for the three blue bulges on the front side
![]()
![]()
▼The Force Warrior can be transformed and mounted on the front of the car, which is also its classic setting.
![]()
![]()
▼Then I am more looking forward to MPG-09 Super Renlai, the overall use of animation color, restore the degree is good, but the arm is smaller.
![]()
▼In the Super Renlai mode, the overall mobility is also very good, this kneeling position is very standard.
![]()
![]()
▼The weapon came with two large guns and two shoulder cannons.
![]()
▼There are two like coral color gradient transparent lightning effects, this effect is quite beautiful.
![]()
▼The car itself can be turned into a battle fortress mode, which is also the basic standard play.
![]()
▼However, the form of the vehicle is slightly disappointed, compared to the original setting, the two towering red arms on the model are really an eyesore, which is not sure that the deformation is not in place, and the arm is forgotten to shorten?
![]()
In short, as a new starting point for MP and MPG, I should start with both. This year is the 40th anniversary of Transformers! In such a special day TT club finished the MP series, opened a new era of MPG, do not know this will bring a positive side to the TF circle, or let him continue to decline, let's wait and see!
