Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version
Material: ABS,Die-cast
Height: Unknown
*This version features a newly upgraded paint scheme, with extensive use of gunmetal and metallic silver finishes, greatly enhancing the overall texture and premium feel.
Today I’m bringing you UT Stinger 2.0. Last year, I reviewed UT’s first version of Stinger, which I rated extremely highly; the mold was almost god-tier, though the paintwork was slightly lacking compared to the movie design. A year later, UT has released the upgraded Stinger 2.0, and I’m bringing you an early review. Let’s see how the toy performs.
▼Since this is still a review sample, it doesn’t include official packaging or paper materials yet; these will come with the production version. The toy contents include the Stinger main figure, two sets of spiked wheels, arm cannon, arm blades, two sets of arm missile pods, two sets of vehicle missile pods, a Bumblebee faceplate head, and replacement spiked wheel parts. Compared to the first version, the 2.0 accessory set is basically the same, except it includes six spare spiked wheels to prevent loss.

▼The 2.0 version changes many of the black paint areas on the first version to silver. Previously, the black paint was close in color to the black plastic, so many separations were not obvious. Now, with much of the black replaced by silver, the toy’s visual texture is much more striking.
The head sculpt is the same as the first version, only with the black paint replaced by silver; the rest of the paint remains the same.

▼One of the strengths of this UT mold is its extremely good aesthetics. The human mode retains the movie look while making the figure slimmer and longer. Almost all vehicle parts are stored inside the body with no obvious external exposure. In version 2.0, the clavicle armor, the sides of the forearm armor, the entire forearms, and most of the legs have had black paint replaced with silver, making the toy visually richer.

▼The most distinctive feature on Stinger’s back is these four spiked wheels. The black section of the back armor is changed to silver, making the mechanical details more obvious. On this review sample, the left thigh has a missing red paint spot, which is clearly a factory oversight. In other words, this is also a one-of-a-kind unit, limited to one worldwide.
The benefit of replacing black with silver is especially obvious on the back of the lower legs. The lower leg structure is complex; in the first version it only had black and red separations. In 2.0, the addition of silver creates the effect of a silver trim around the lower leg armor. The outer armor near the wheels also appears to have a silver coating, giving it more of the live-action movie feel. However, the feet are much narrower than in the movie, which is a necessary compromise for transformation design.

▼UT Stinger’s articulation has been described previously, so here’s a refresher. The head can rotate horizontally and tilt up significantly. The arms rotate vertically and can lift past 90 degrees. Elbows bend well beyond 90 degrees and can rotate. Wrists rotate, and hands can close inward. The hands are fully articulated: the thumb has a ball joint and two hinge joints; the other three fingers each have two hinge joints.
![Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1 Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1]()
▼The waist can rotate and the torso can tilt forward. Legs can kick forward and backward well past 90 degrees, and sideways about 45 degrees. Thighs rotate horizontally; knees bend well beyond 90 degrees. Feet can plant inward, and the front foot can bend upward. As a transforming figure, Stinger’s articulation is excellent; the only minor limitation is the sideways leg kick angle. Combined with a cool human mode design, posing is very dynamic.

▼Stinger’s claw cannon is familiar—it connects directly via a slot on the arm. I’m not sure if the weapon design was influenced by Transformers 2 Megatron, but reusing design elements in the live-action movie line is not unusual.

▼The arm blades from the first version, shared with Dino, are included again. I think these blades could benefit from additional paint, such as detailing the springs where they connect to the arms, to enhance the visual texture. If you have the first version, this allows for a double-blade setup. For some reason, it reminds me of the Yaksha King from Black Myth: Wukong.
![Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1 Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1]()
▼The Bumblebee faceplate can be used on UT Bumblebee or simply held by Stinger. In the movie, Bumblebee holds Stinger’s head; here, Stinger holds Bumblebee’s head, so Stinger finally gets his revenge.
![Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1 Unique Toys R09-02 Red Destroyer Stinger Repaint Version - View 1]()
▼The two arm missile launchers are actually for Bumblebee, but since both figures share arm parts, Stinger can also use them.

▼Stinger’s transformation is the same as the first version—classic UT large-scale unfolding. Transformation is slightly more complex than previous UT small cars, but the logic is clear and easy to remember. The spiked wheels on Stinger’s back also fold and store as a single unit in vehicle mode, which is a major advantage of this mold.
The vehicle mode is a Pagani Huayra. The toy’s shell is very complete. Since Stinger’s human and vehicle modes barely share the same side of any piece, changes in the human mode paint scheme barely affect the vehicle mode, keeping completion high. The only minor flaw is a missing front splitter for transformation purposes, making the front look slightly short.

▼In vehicle mode, the missile pods can be installed. In the movie, Stinger uses these on a highway chase. These missile pods can fold and store with the figure in human mode, with no removal required.

▼The 2.0 Stinger retains the excellent first version mold while refreshing the paint separation scheme. The extensive use of silver significantly enhances the toy’s visual appeal and makes it feel more like a live-action movie toy. Because the mold itself is excellent, the paint update makes the toy more than the sum of its parts. If you didn’t buy the first version, you can confidently get this 2.0 version. As a culmination of Cybertron compression technology, this Stinger is highly recommended.
